Greetings everyone,

I check this site at least once a day - it's just one bookmark in my clubs group which I open all at once - primarily because I run the GNU/Linux Beginners SIG but also to occasionally post and to usually respond to others' posts, and I must say the silence here is deafening.  Well, be that as it may, there's not much more I can do to induce lively discussion...other than being interesting, provocative, and occasionally humorous!

The purpose of this message is to solicit requests, comments are always welcome, for my database presentation next Tuesday.  I did list what I intended to cover, and will use a Contacts database, both handmade and Wizard generated as the context for my presentation, but I would LOVE to directly address members' interests and questions.

If anyone has any focus or issues regarding databases they'd like to make sure I touch upon...fire away!  This topic can span the spectrum from an overview to gain general literacy on the components, usefulness, and usage of databases all the way to SQL at a level where real data mining can occur.  I am set up to demonstrate, and go all the way to training on, everything from stand-alone database applications to database servers and accessing them through all the various means.

What I will present runs on all platforms, and since it is F/OSS software it is free of cost for individuals and businesses alike, so it has the potential of being relevant to everyone.  If there is a deep interest among the club membership, this topic could span a portion of several meetings resulting in an opportunity for the acquisition of some meaningful knowledge and skills.

Anyone?

Frank

I'm certified by Microsoft as an Application Specialist in Microsoft Access 2007. I'll be interested in your presentation to see how much I still remember from when I passed the certification exam.

Excellent, Bill, and don't hesitate to jump in and contribute!  If you've got examples you can share with the club about how the members might find a database program like this useful, I'm sure the folks would be glad to hear about them.

See you at the meeting...
